In 1962 Marilyn Monroe purchased her first home. After living in multiple locations in the Los Angeles area (she was a native). The home has been sold multiple times over the years. She purchased the home for $57,500 in in 1962. The day of her death multiple purchase agreements, were placed on the property. The Nunez family won the home at probate auction at 10% over the highest bid, after multiple lawsuits. Over the years, multiple movie stars have inhabited the home including Veronica Hamel, and the late actress Anna Nicole Smith. Most recently it changed hands for 8.4 million dollars.
The city of Los Angeles filed a permit allowing demolition only to days later revoke the permit. The new owners have perhaps changed their minds about demolition of the historic property with the quote that “They hope to be able to work with the city of Los Angeles, the neighbors, while respecting the memory of Marilyn Monroe. While respecting the current owners hopes and wishes for the property”.
What this means ultimately is that the home is currently safe from demolition while a study is conducted to mark the property as a historical marker.
