A former first-responder is now asking the community for help in search of a kidney donor. Steven Byers, Sr. has served nearly three decades working in the Boonville fire department. He served 18 years as the fire chief, retiring in 2015. After that, his health has been on a decline with numerous ailments that have affected his way of living. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer, beat it, and now has had to deal with kidney issues. Byers says he is in desperate need of a new kidney, going through dialysis three times a week.
If you would like to see if you are a match, you can call the Indiana University donor team at 1-800-382-4602. You can also go to their website as well. They are also going through Vanderbilt Health and can check there too.
The family also has an account set up at People’s Bank and Trust in Boonville. You can donate to their funds under the account name “Team Poppy” to help with travel expenses and medical bills.
