The Salvation Army’s annual War on Hunger campaign begins Friday, April 17 at local Schnucks locations in Evansville and Newburgh. The long-time partnership with Schnucks has been critical to resupply Salvation Army shelves for the demanding summer months.
In 2025, the War on Hunger campaign collected 3,174 food items. The Salvation Army hopes to collect at least 4,000 items this year to address rising need in southwestern Indiana.
Last year, The Salvation Army provided over 114,000 meals to residents of Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Posey counties, continuing to feed the public through times of uncertainty for the food supply chain in the summer and fall of 2025. The Salvation Army needs the community’s help to continue to serve those who are hungry. With the support from Schnucks and their generous customers the fight against hunger will continue through 2026.
“The Salvation Army is excited to partner with Schnucks grocery stores in our annual War on Hunger Campaign,” said Captain Brandon Lewis with The Salvation Army. “Together, we are focused on ensuring families in need have access to nutritious meals. Every donation, big or small, makes a meaningful difference in our local communities. Let’s work together to make a lasting impact and spread the love of Christ in our communities all year long.”
On April 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. volunteers will be present at six participating Schnucks locations passing out lists of the most needed items for families in The Salvation Army’s food programs. There will be opportunities to donate both in-kind food and monetary gifts to feed families facing food insecurity in our community.
