Southwest Indiana Workforce and WorkOne are partnering to offer select Mater Dei
students to a job exploration fair where they will get the opportunity to speak with local employers about
career opportunities to pursue after receiving a high school education.
As part of the new graduation requirements, Mater Dei students are required to attend a career event.
The high school offers a career fair every other year, and select students still needed the requirement.
Mater Dei’s counselor reached out to SWIN Workforce to see if this was something the students could participate in.
The career exploration fair is on March 5 at the Evansville WorkOne office located at 4600 Washington
Ave. Ste 113. The career fair begins at 9 a.m. and last until 10 a.m.
Throughout the fair, students will get the unique opportunity to speak with employers about the career
opportunities offered. Students bring a list of questions to the career exploration event for the employers
to answer.
Employers who are participating in this event include 5/3 Bank, Home Instead Senior Care, Arc of
Evansville, Tri-State CDL School, Evansville Goodwill, ECHO Housing, GlobeLife Liberty National, and
Catholic Charities.
Southwest Indiana Workforce Business Services Manager, Valerie Schmidt says that these events help
youth explore and experience the many opportunities that are available to them throughout the area.
“This partnership is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the employers local to the area
and show them the many paths that is available to them that they may not otherwise know about,
”Schmidt says.
“We hope events like this continue to keep talent local to southwest Indiana.
