LISBON (Reuters) – Portuguese consumer prices rose 2.1% year-on-year in October, after a 3.6% increase in the previous month, and well below a 10.1% jump a year ago, when record-high energy prices across Europe stoked overall inflation, flash data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) showed on Tuesday.
Still, core inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy prices and is seen as a better gauge of the underlying trend, was at 3.5% year-on-year, after a reading of 4.1% in September.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.2%.
