St. Vincent will relocate its Evansville-based aircraft to the airport in Huntingburg by the end of April.
In a statement, the health provider said moving the StatFlight base will place the aircraft closer to EMS agencies that in the past had to use competing air programs.
“Additionally, the new location puts the St. Vincent aircraft and the St. Vincent brand in an area that makes it the closest aircraft to service Daviess County Hospital, Jasper Memorial Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.”
Officials say the impact will be minimal to the Evansville community and to those patients who are being transferred out to Louisville or Indianapolis.
PHI Air Medical is a partner of St. Vincent and will also operate an aircraft in Greenville, Kentucky.
Recently, the pilots of StatFlight completed their instrument flight rules training. This means they can transport patients in weather where previously, poor visibility (low clouds, heavy haze and fog) prevented transport by air.
The StatFlight aircraft will be able to take advantage of the Huntingburg Airport’s instrument approach process.
