Another MTV Video Music Awards are in the books, with Taylor Swiftwalking away with the top trophy, Video of the Year for “You Need To Calm Down.” In her speech, Taylor used her platform to encourage fans to sign the Equality Act
petition.
Taylor also took home the trophy for Video for Good for “You Need to Calm Down,” whileAriana Grande won the night’s other big award, Artist of the Year, as well as Song of the Summer, while Lil Nas Xand Billy Ray Cyrus nabbed Song of the Year for “Old Town Road.” Missy Elliottwas also honored last night with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and blew everyone away with her performance, which included a medley of her hits. As far as other performances go, Taylor Swift’s opening performance was met with lots of praise, as was Normani, Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello and Lizzo’s (which included a large virtual reality twerking butt.) So far, the night’s host Sebastian Maniscalco has received mixed reviews, with some finding his opening monologue about “safe spaces” and “millennials” not funny.
Taylor Swift
Earlier this year,
Forbes
named
Taylor Swift the highest-paid entertainer of the year, so it’s no surprise that she now also tops the magazine’s list of the Highest Paid Women in Music. Taylor, who just released her seventh album, “Lover,” earns the top spot by bringing in $185 million in the past year, topping the second-highest paid female artist, Beyonce, by more than $100 million. Rounding out the top 5 are Rihanna, Katy Perry and Pink.
