We need your help as we attack and conquer the Food Insecurity in our community!
- We are currently serving an average of 280 – 325 neighbors per month and an average of 800 – 1000+ family members per month
- We receive a monthly food allotment from the USDA and we supplement this as needed. This allotment has decreased drastically. We were receiving approximately 20,000 lbs of food monthly but in the last few months we are only receiving 10 to 11000 lbs per month. For example: prior to funding cuts we would receive 55 – 60+ cases of frozen meats/fish along with canned salmon, tuna, packaged chicken and beef stew. This enabled us to provide our neighbors with plenty of food for a minimum of 5 meals for the week.
- Currently we receive 20 – 35 cases of frozen meat (sometimes less) and lately we have not received tuna, salmon, beef stew or packaged chicken. For example: recently we received our food delivery on a Tuesday as scheduled. We opened on Weds as usual and served our neighbors. They shop and receive the number of perishable and non perishable items allowed for their family size. At the end of the night after serving 87 neighbors/278 family members we were out of frozen whole chickens and chicken legs leaving only half of the fish order we had received the day before which was allotted for the whole month. Conclusion: we will not have enough for our neighbors for the rest of the month. Also on this order we received no canned or packaged meats/fish.
- Prior to funding cuts and neighbors losing the aid provided through SNAP we were able to assist the working poor as well as others in need of feeding their families but now fear without the assistance needed we will fail them in helping to meet their needs. We have been serving in this community for more than 12 years and have heard the gratitude expressed by so many of those we have grown to know and built relationships with. They depend on us and we do not want to fail them. Our desire along with the aid and collaboration of others in our community is to continue what we have been doing to meet the needs of those depending on us.
