The Evansville City Council said no Monday night to a big raise for the city’s incoming mayor.
Councilwoman Missy Mosby moved to keep the mayor’s salary where it is.
There had been discussions of increasing the new mayor’s salary by about $30,000, but Mosby wanted to use that money for firefighter cancer screenings.
Councilman Ron Beane said the roles of the mayor and the city clerk are vital and deserve higher pay.
Mosby’s amendments were defeated in a 7-2 vote.
