Evansville Fire Department chief Mike Connelly has submitted his resignation from the department, allowing him to retire.
Connelly was a 29-year veteran firefighter who led the department’s response to the Weinbach house explosion and the Morton Avenue warehouse fire last year.
He was named chief in 2011 by Mayor Winnecke and is succeeded by assistant chief Paul Anslinger.
