An Indiana State Trooper was killed Friday afternoon in DeKalb County.
The preliminary investigation by the ISP indicates that around 4:30 pm, 50 year old Master Trooper James Bailey was assisting other officers on I-69 with traffic backup, when he became aware of an individual driving at a high rate of speed.
The driver was evading an officer on I-69 approaching his location.
Trooper Bailey attempted to de-escalate the pursuit by deploying stop sticks.
He was struck by the suspect’s vehicle and critically injured.
He died later at the hospital.
The driver, 42 year old Terry Sands II, was arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement causing death to an officer.
Trooper Bailey is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
