For the second time, the family of notorious bank robber John Dillinger has applied for an exhumation permit for his body.
The state of Indiana hasn’t approved it yet, but if it does, the date of exhumation would be December 3, and the remains would have to be re-interred by December 17.
Dillinger is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
An earlier exhumation permit was for a History Channel documentary on the gangster, but the History Channel pulled out, and the exhumation didn’t happen.
The latest permit is an attempt to dispell rumors that it’s not Dillinger in the grave, but a double, who was killed instead of Dillinger outside a Chicago movie house in 1934.
