No compromise acceptable to proponents on constitutional ban on gay marriage

As the Indiana House prepares for a debate on whether to revise a constitutional ban on gay marriage, three conservative groups are urging legislators to keep the amendment as is. Several legislators have said they‘d like to see the second sentence of the amendment deleted. That‘s the line which bans civil unions as well as gay marriage. Indiana Family Institute president Curt Smith says that clause is essential to the legal argument that marriage deserves unique status under the law.
