What Evansville wants to accomplish, Mount Vernon can mark off its "to do" list. The Posey County city has completed a $15 million sewer project that puts it in compliance with U.S. EPA mandates and State of Indiana regulations. Mount Vernon has separated its storm and sanitary sewers. Indiana Department of Environmental Management Commissioner Thomas Easterly joined Mount Vernon officials in cutting a ribbon, celebrating the new system. Officials say sewer rates will go up only $5 a month for average customers. Evansville is facing a similar project on a much grander scale.
