The first ever Indiana Infant Mortality Summit was held Friday in Indianapolis, bringing together health care providers, policy makers, public health professionals, faith-based and community leaders and others. One goal was to draw attention to an issue that's been identified as the Indiana State Department of Health’s top priority. The death of a baby before his or her first birthday is called infant mortality. In 2010, Indiana ranked 45th among states for infant mortality, with a rate of 7.5 infant deaths per 1,000 live births.
